Abstract

Diagnosis of orbital inflammation is complex since the high the number conditions causing it. Moreover, the association with extraocular inflammation requires, in order to exclude certain diseases, a thorough medical history and analytical and imaging tests. Orbital inflammatory disease (OID) remains a diagnosis of exclusion; in treatment-refractory as well as atypical cases, biopsy is required. Corticosteroids are the treatment of choice, however other treatments (mainly immunomodulators) are required in order to prevent recurrences.
