Abstract
Introduction

Patients with ischaemic heart disease, diabetes or chronic kidney disease are at high or very high cardiovascular risk and require strict monitoring of all risk factors including dyslipidaemia. Of all the plasma lipids, control of LDL cholesterol (c-LDL) is a priority.

Treatment

The guidelines of the different societies suggest different approaches to managing hyperlipidaemia in these situations, although statins form the basis of treatment in all of them. Because it is necessary to lower LDL and non-HDL cholesterol levels in these patients, they often require combined treatment with other lipid-lowering agents, exetimib or fibrates essentially. PCSK9 inhibitors can be of additional benefit in certain patients.
