Abstract
Introduction

Ischaemic heart disease affects a broad percentage of the population. Certain of its subgroups have peculiarities in terms of clinical presentation, diagnostic and treatment. In this protocol we will specifically focus on the management of four special situations: women, the elderly, diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease.

Clinical presentation and prevalence

These groups present a greater amount of atypical symptoms, which can delay diagnosis. Furthermore, with the exception of the female group, there is a higher prevalence of heart disease in the other three groups compared to the general population and poorer prognosis.

Diagnosis

A diagnosis of microvascular or vasospastic angina should be considered in women. The condition tends to be more diffuse and severe in the elderly, and the high cardiovascular risk presented by the other two groups should be borne in mind. We shall cover these issues below, and pay particular attention to diagnostic and therapeutic management.
