Abstract
Definition

Paget's disease of bone is a skeletal disorder characterized by increased and disorganized bone remodeling affecting one or more skeletal sites.

Although some patients are asymptomatic other has bone pain or develops complications such as deafness, deformity, osteoarthritis, nerve compression syndromes, and fragility fractures.

Diagnosis

Plain X-ray and radionuclide bone scan are the best test to confirm the diagnosis and its extension. Total alkaline phosphatase activity is the preferred bone marker to measure disease metabolic activity.

Treatment

Bone pain is the only indication for treatment which is supported by strong evidence. There is no clear evidence to support the rest of treatment indications. Intravenous zoledronate is the first-line treatment.
